- Key identification features : Climbing or ascending herbs, 1-3 m long; stem and branches prickly; Leaves broadly ovate or deltoid, long petiolate, margin and veins with recurved spines beneath; Flowers in terminal or axillary branched racemes, white or pink; Nuts obovoid, rounded, shining blue when ripe.
