  • Key identification features : A medium-sized tree with compact grey bark with darker streaks, with ovate-lanceolate long-pointed, doubly saw-toothed leaves, and with pen dulous fruiting clusters 5-10 cm long. Male catkins pendulous to 8 cm, borne on leafless branches; bracts triangular-ovate; stamens hairy. Leaves 5-12 cm; stipules oblong, soon falling. Nut c. 3 mm, ribbed, with lanceolate toothed involucre c. 2.5 cm, with small triangular basal lobes.
