Habitat : Scrub forest
Key identification features : A large erect or climbing shrub with recurved spines. Bark brown and thick. Leaves are simple, dark green and coriaceous. Inflorescence is an umbel of about 30 flowers. Sepals 4, the outer 2 are larger in size and keeled while the inner 2 are small; petals 4 white in colour and clawed with prominent ribs. Stamens are few and elevated on a stalk (androphore), similarly ovary is placed on a short stalk, the gynophore. Fruit is a globose berry with a hard rind.

Comments : Common in scrub jungle and hilly areas of Eastern Ghats.
