  • Key identification features : A moderate-sized deciduous tree. Leaves are large, compound with oblong leaflets, sessile, broader at the apex, which are reddish when young and dark-green when mature. Flowers are small in panicles at the nodes. Sepals are 5, yellowish. Fruit is grape or olive-shaped with a pointed beak, up to 3 cm. long, slightly prickly. Aril is edible. Bark is pale brown with irregularly cracked appearance.

  • Comments : On hills above 500 m in deciduous forests. Oil from the seeds is valued for cooking and other purposes.
