  • Key identification features : A succulent herb or an undershrub. Roots are tuberous. Leaves are elliptic to obovate, emarginate or mucronate. Flowers are bisexual in terminal panicles. Petals are red-purple with stamens being numerous. Ovary 1-celled. Fruit a capsule, globose, 3-valved. Seeds are many, black, shining with a caruncle.
