  • Key identification features : A large evergreen tree with milky latex. Bark is smooth, dark, and exfoliating.The leaves are simple and bear two large stipules. Flowers are unisexual in separate inflorescences. The entire female inflorescence together with parts of individual flowers forms a large multiple fruit. Sepals and petals become fleshy and juicy to form the edible part of the fruit.

  • Comments : On hills to 1300 m, in wild as well as in cultivation. Fruits are edible, young tender ones used in cooking, sometimes along with the seeds after they are dried.
