- Key identification features : A small, thorny, deciduous shrub. Sometimes bears leaves and flowers on thorns. Leaves are obovate with serrate or entire margin. Flowers are small, dioecious, greenish-yellow, in racemes. Fruit is a globose berry.

- Comments : Common in Eastern Ghats on hills of deciduous forests from 500-1350 m. Fruit is edible and eaten raw, used in jaundice and enlarged spleen. Bark is astringent and diuretic. (Franklin & Murthy, 2013)
