Key identification features : Small tree. Bark exfoliating in rectangular plates with red blaze. Flowers are in small, axillary, silky clusters. Calyx lobes ovate-lanceolate. Ovary glabrous. Capsule hard and woody.

Flower, Fruit : February-August
Comments : Fairly common, especially in open deciduous forests. Tender leaves, root and fruit are deadly poisonous. Fruit explodes very loudly.
