  • Key identification features : A small tree. Leaves are elliptic-lanceolate, acute or acuminate at apex, glabrous and drying black. Male flowers are very small, in distinctly peduncled cymes, usually 4-merous. Female flowers are solitary, twice as large as the male. Fruit is globose, up to 2 cm across, seated on the woody, cup-shaped accrescent calyx. Seeds 2-8. endosperm ruminate.
