  • Key identification features : A large resiniferous tree. Bark grey with longitudinal fissures. Leaves are alternate, coriaceous and elliptic-oblong. Inflorescence axillary in panicles. Flowers are attractive, white, 1.2-1.5 cm across, star-shaped, fragrant and hairy outside. Fruit is nut-like and enclosed in an accrescent calyx that forms wings of the fruit.

  • Comments : Occasional in deciduous forests above 800 m. Flowers are fragrant and used to decorate hair by local women. Resin is used as an incense.
