- Key identification features : Corm subterranean, broadly obconical to hemispherical, withered in well matured, larger plants, bearing upto 8 cm long fibrous roots densely all over. Leaves tufted, erect, linear, grass-like, widest and thinnest at the base, progressively tapered and thickened towards acicular apex, dark green, herbaceous, glabrous. Sporangia borne at the base of the leaves, heterosporangiate; megasporangia common, planoconvex or reniform, connected with ligule at the apex, sporangial wall very thin, flapped by thin, membranaceous, entire ligule; microsporangia similar to megasporangia but rare; megaspores granular, whitish, triangular, terete, with a narrow perispore; microspores whitish when dry, greyish when wet, powdery, monolete.
