- Key identification features : The trunk is about 9 cm in diameter, about a meter high with persistent swollen bases of stipes, bearing crown of fronds at the apex; trunk densely covered by scales. Stipes tufted, chestnut brown, glossy, densely scaly at the swollen base, glabrous above. Lamina bipinnate, primary pinnae about 12 pairs, spreading, alternate, distinctly stalked; secondary pinnae about 20 pairs, spreading, alternate, shortly stalked; lamina dark green when fresh, brownish when dry; texture herbaceous. Sori median on the veins, three to five and half pairs, forming two zig-zag rows submarginally, exindusiate, sporangia numerous, compact; paraphyses mingled with sporangia.
