Key identification features : A lofty and handsome evergreen resinous tree with hairy branches. Bole buttressed. Bark is grey, exfoliating and exudes a resin, blaze aromatic; Leaves are large, odd pinnate, bright yellow when young turning to velvety-crimson; Inflorescence is a large panicle. Flowers are polygamous and 3-merous with a prominent hypanthium and a lobed disk. Stamens are about 6. Fruit is a drupe.

Comments : It yields a brilliant resin called the Black Dammar of South India. The resin is used medicinally for making plasters and also used as incense.
