  • Key identification features : A small deciduous tree, upto 8m high, young branches are yellowish and armed with strong straight thorns. Bark is smooth and bluish-grey. Leaves are simple, oblong and glabrous above, velvety tomentose beneath. Flowers arise on young, leafless shoots, male flowers occuring in fascicles and females are solitary; calyx turbinate and corolla glabrous. Fruit is an ovoid berry with bluntly pointed tip.
