- Key identification features : A low, much-branched, spinuous tree with an erect stem. Bark is dark brown and highly furrowed with corky appearance. The branchlets, petiole and underside of leaves are white tomentose. Leaves are simple, elliptic-ovate to orbicular, palmately nerved with stipules modified into hooked spines. Flowers are small, in axillary clusters, bisexual with a prominent intra-staminal disc. Fruit is an orange-red berry.
