  • Key identification features : Annual or perennial grasses. Culms are erect, ascending, decumbent, rooting at the nodes. Leaves are simple, alternate with rounded-cordate leaf sheaths. Ligule is ciliate-fimbriate. Inflorescence unit is a spikelet which is sessiled, solitary. Lower glume 1-nerved. Upper glume membranous, 1-5 nerved. Lemma chartaceous. Stamens-3. Filaments are filiform. Anthers brownish, versatile; Ovary superior; Stigma plumose. Fruit is a Caryopsis.
