  • Key identification features : A large deciduous trees growing up to 20m. Bark dark grey or purplish, exfoliating, young parts of the plants are grey or rusty tomentose. Leaves are simple, leathery, ovate -oblong and grey downy underneath, Fruit is smooth and globose.

  • Comments : Frequent near human habitations and in forests. Pieces of fruits are edible, dried and used as a substitute for tamarind in curries. Fruits are also pickled. Timber is used for a variety of purposes. A fodder tree in Nepal.
