  • Key identification features : An erect shrub or small tree. Leaves alternate, broadly elliptic to narrowly oblong or oblanceolate, acuminate at apex. Flowers small, polygamo-dioecious, in axillary or leaf-opposed condensed cymes. Calyx minute, cupular. Disc in male flowers cushion-shaped, united with the base of the rudimentary ovary, often absent in female flowers. Ovary elongate, 1-celled; ovules 2, pendulous. Fruit a drupe, oblong, white, crowned by the remains of stigma. Seed 1.
