  • Key identification features : A large shrub or a small tree common on river beds, dioecious. Leaves are simple, linear-lanceolate, up to 20 cm long, 3 cm wide, with yellow scales beneath. Flowers are small on spikate inflorescence, male flowers pink whereas females are brownish and sessile. Fruit is a schizocarp of 3 cocci.

  • Comments : Planted as an erosion retardant in Sumatra. Ropes are made from bark in China (Mabberley,1997).
